Lead Climbing Lessons in the Bow Valley

Agenda

Day 1 - After a review of basic rock climbing and belaying techniques, you will learn how to properly clip bolts, build anchors, belay a lead climber, and safely take falls. Everyone will have lots of chances to try leading, but there won't be any pressure if you aren't feeling ready.

Day 2 - As well as practicing the skills learned on day 1, you will learn how to clean anchors (ie. how to get your rope back without leaving any gear behind), and deal with unnexpected situations such as not being able to make it to the top of a climb. For those who are interested there may be the opportunity for a brief introduction to traditional gear placements as well.

Optional Day 3 - Multipitch Ascent: Course participants can add on a day of multipitch climbing in groups of 1 or 2 people. On the day after the course, this is offered at the discounted rate of $400 for 1 person, $225 each for 2 people. Please request this option in advance. See the[rock] page for more information on guided ascents.
